Pitchfork

Brand Identity | Motion | Interface Design

Pitchfork is a music-focused media company with a mission to curate non-mainstream music and to help users find emerging artists. They frequently produce podcasts, interviews, and music videos.

I gave Pitchfork a fresh, updated look with a comprehensive brand overhaul to further establish them among other big music platforms. I created a new visual identity that captures the user’s attention through vibrant colors, bold typography, and dynamic illustrative elements. This new direction fosters a sense of community, celebrates diversity in music, and embodies the spirit of anti-mainstream music.

Logo

I gave the Pitchfork logo a fresh spin by taking inspiration from a vintage record, while the taper of the “P” nods to the actual end of a fork.

For the palette, I liked the idea of primary colors to represent the wide range of music and diverse community of music lovers.

App + Web

I wanted the site’s UI design to feel energizing and get users excited to dive in and explore. Since Pitchfork is well known for their reviews and articles, I made sure to feature these, along with music rankings and suggestions.

Whether you’re an emerging artist putting yourself out there, browsing articles, or sharing your own views, the site encourages you to engage. This idea is reflected in the tagline I chose, “Create. Listen. Share.”
